Can Headseaway provide heavy lift service?
Yes. Headseaway is fully capable of providing heavy lift chartering services. Headseaway has long been working closely with global heavy lift carriers and has established good cooperative relationships. We can quickly integrate the best and most suitable heavy lift ship capacity resources for customers to choose according to their requirements, so as to ensure the solution of their oversize cargo transportation problems.
What is a heavy lift ship?
Heavy lift ship is a transport ship that carries heavy cargo and can rely on its own equipment to load and discharge, also called heavy cargo ship. General heavy lift ships are equipped with crane, also known as ship crane, is a large deck machinery on board, it is a kind of ship loading and discharging cargo equipment, hydraulic crane is a kind of loading and discharging equipment commonly used on ships. Now the market of heavy lift ship general single lifting capacity is in 60-250 tons or more, the maximum lifting capacity for and lifting in line with the most can reach 1600 tons.
What is the oversize cargo?
At present, there is relatively no very clear definition of oversize cargoes at home and internationally, such as China's maritime transport standards for oversize cargoes is that the cargo is longer than 9 meters and heavier than 5MT, that is long and bulky cargo, while the international definition of oversize cargoes is mainly focused on the weight index that a single piece of cargo weighing more than 40 tons.
Headseaway based on years of practice, according to the characteristics of domestic and most countries sea and land transport, the definition of the starting point of oversize cargoes as follows:
Length over 12 meters, width over 3.5 meters, height over 3 meters, single piece weight over 20 tons. Special cargo that requires special stowage, lifting, loading and discharging operations.
Current classification of oversize cargoes
Cargo type | Example | Remark |
Oil & Gas Equipment | Handling modules, habitation equipment, subsea equipment, drywall, decks, complete platforms / jack-ups | Possibly very large equipment weighing thousands of tons |
Refining & Petrochemical Equipment | Cooling towers, flash towers, storage tanks, pipe racks, reactors, reaction towers and similar equipment | Size may be larger, often densely loaded on deck |
Renewable Energy Equipment | Wind turbine blades (loaded on racks), engine nacelle bases, piles, tidal turbines. Power cables (on non-special ships) | Wind turbine blades (usually loaded on racks) may be affected by the general longitudinal bending of the ship due to their length. Therefore, careful stowage and fastening is required to avoid this effect. |
Modules & Pre-assembled units | Often found in oil and gas facilities or refineries / petrochemical plants, these facilities may include living quarters, pre-assembled machinery, generating units, large pipe racks | Often pre-assembled into large structural frames, requiring careful lashing, securing and supporting to avoid deformation |
Port Loading & Discharging Equipment | Usually cranes and material handling equipment, such as large container gantry cranes, ship loaders, mobile harbor cranes, RTG starters, front-end cranes | It may consist of a frame that needs to be carefully lashed, secured and supported to avoid deformation. Some cranes may have lower lifting stability |
Port Facilities | Includes pre-assembly items such as approach bridges, quay platforms, catwalks, bollards, single floating moorings | Rolling loading/discharging |
Water Transportation Equipment | A wide variety of boats such as tugboats, small ferries, yachts and superyachts, small ships | Careful positioning and control of the lifting sleeve is required |
Rolling Stock & Heavy Machinery | Locomotives and vehicles, wheeled and tracked vehicles such as material handling trucks, excavators, automotive type equipment such as mobile cranes, drilling rigs, etc. Mining equipment, engineering equipment | Often includes oversize cargo. Needs to be properly stowed and fastened |
Power Plants & Generation Equipment | Large generators, conductors, transformers and similar equipment |
